About Cabot
My Story
After graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance (Opera) from UBC, I studied for 5 years with Ken Nielsen, a Functional Voice Trainer in Calgary. This began my life-long fascination with how to optimize the human voice. I also performed with the Calgary Opera school tour and Chorus, Debut Opera and Seattle Opera Chorus while pursuing a parallel career as a Theatre Technician and Stage Manager.
While working as Production Manager for Arizona Opera. I encountered the Permaculture movement, which ignited my other passion for the natural world and sustainable living. Now in Nova Scotia, I am living both of these streams by planting a Food Forest on Hampton Mountain and with my ongoing involvement in the local musical community.
My Approach
This voice training approach derives from Functional Voice Training, which emphasizes trusting and cooperating with your voice’s innate intelligence. The principles are simple enough, although it is helpful to have guidance from someone who’s gone through the process. On this site you will find a number of articles I’ve written to share my understanding of how you can begin discovering your voice’s “secret sauce”.
